You know that feeling when you are about to start something that you are dreading (like running the mile in gym class when you’re a kid) and it turns out that the unwelcome activity has been replaced by something truly joyful? (Like when it turns out to be Parachute day in gym class instead?) This month’s artwork was designed by me, Maeve, and it celebrates that feeling. May you have your own version of parachute day in the coming weeks. Happy Spring!

This month’s artwork was created by me and it celebrates the idea of keeping a can-do-spirit and rolling with the punches. And also cinnamon rolls. Enjoy!

This is a bittersweet post. I returned from a visit to Paris last week and I did several postcard drawings over the trip. For each new drawing I grew increasingly enchanted with the city; they remind me of sitting in different spots taking in the rich visual details, enjoying a pastry and feeling thankful for the kind locals who helped me figure out the metro, and the moms who would smile when their kids would peer over my shoulder while I sketched. These memories are bittersweet today and I am incredibly saddened by the news from last night. My heart goes out to Paris today.

When you are churning out artwork day-in and day-out the projects that are older than a month or two can eventually start to blur and fade in your memory. Especially with freelance because often you don’t know what happens with the art once you hand it off to the client. Then when you see it again out in the world it’s the best surprise, like having your long-lost runaway cat come home. I got that feeling recently when a colleague pointed out that this dinosaur artwork which I did several seasons ago made it’s way to some kids dinnerware at Bed Bath & Beyond, I had completely forgotten about this project! Sadly, similar to the dinosaurs, this collection has already run through it’s time in store, but you may be able to see it on clearance here and there if you keep an eye out.
